DNV Selected for Impact Assessment in Norway’s Offshore Wind Project
DNV has been chosen by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) to conduct a strategic impact assessment of 20 potential offshore wind development areas. This selection is part of Norway’s plan to develop 30 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind power by 2040, a move towards increasing the nation’s renewable energy sources.
The offshore wind areas span the entire Norwegian coastline, stretching from Skagerak in the south to the Barents Sea in the north.
The assessment, scheduled for 2024, aims to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with offshore wind developments. DNV will analyze aspects such as potential pollution, emissions to air and sea, waste generation, and the overall sustainability of the proposed wind projects. These assessments are essential in understanding the environmental implications of expanding Norway’s offshore wind capacity.
Leading the team at DNV is Eirik Færøy Sæbø, from the company’s Environmental Risk section. With over 30 years of experience in the field, Sæbø and his team are equipped to provide a comprehensive analysis of the environmental risks involved.
